James graduated from Morgan State University, a historically black college. He earned his BS in film and television production. Using his diverse experiences as an actor, director, and writer, James has produced over 50 feature films. His awards include best feature film in the Big Apple Film Festival and Key West Film Festival. His films and keen insight in spotting talent has been the launching pad for several working actors, including Morris Chestnut. He has also worked closely with many industry professionals over the years, such as Michael Goi, Mike Tristano, and Alex Diaz.
