Butcher played guitar and co-wrote for the British punk/new wave band Elton Motello with Ward, who adopted "Elton Motello" as his pseudonym, while Butcher performed as Jet Staxx in the band and later as a solo act. Meeting little success as a band, both Butcher and Ward worked as record producers and songwriters.
