He is the art director of works such as Mobile Suit Gundam and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. His representative works as a mechanical designer include Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and Mach GoGoGo. He died at his home in Tokyo on May 16, 2011 due to oral cancer; he was 67 years old.
