Cerrato served as an assistant director on several notable films, including Don Camillo monsignore... ma non troppo (1961) and Angélique, Marquise des Anges (1964). He made his directorial debut with OSS 117 – Double Agent (1968), co-directed with Jean-Pierre Desagnat, contributing to the popular Eurospy genre of the time. Cerrato also directed Raped on the Beach (1971), a film that delved into dramatic and controversial themes. In addition to his directorial work, he appeared as an actor in films such as The Gendarme in New York (1965).
