Born Ivy Cynthia to a Pakistani Christian family, she started her film career in 1963 as a supporting actress and gradually progressed to more leading roles. She converted to Islam and changed her name upon marriage to Muslim sound specialist Riffat Qureshi. Her nephew is the famous producer Faysal Quraishi.
