He has participated in the National Novel Writing Month competition (www.nanowrimo.org) eight times, winning seven; the result of the first win is his novel The Man With Two Shadows, which won an Honorable Mention in the 2013 Great Southeast Book Festival (New Orleans) and 2nd Place in the 2013 Great Northwest Book Festival (Seattle).
