About Ava Bernstine-Mitchell

Ava Bernstine-Mitchell is an actor, dancer, choreographer and teacher and is known for La La Land (2016), Spirited (2022) and Unfrosted (2024). Ava Bernstine-Mitchell affectionately called Ava Flav, is a veteran dancer of over twenty years, a choreographer and master educator. Discovered by Debbie Allen at the age of 16, Ava became the youngest dance instructor at her dance academy and began assisting Debbie Allen in choreography and productions. In addition to being a film, television and stage choreographer, Ava choreographs and mentors in the NBA and college dance space for Clipper’s Spirit and Los Angeles Laker Girls. Most recently she just wrapped as associate choreographer for Apple’s first musical film production “Spirited” starring Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds and Octavia Spencer and “Unfrosted” with Jerry Seinfeld. Ava Flav has toured the world with Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears and performed with Beyonce, Usher, Chris Brown, Mariah Carey and Nikki Minaj and more. Her TV credits include Crazy Ex Girlfriend, That’s So Raven, Apple’s Physical, The Academy Awards and so many more. For 7 years, Ava acted as resident Associate Choreographer on The Late Late Show with James Corden along side Emmy nominated choreographer Chloe Arnold. As a team, they have choreographed for CBS’s The Talk, HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, John Legend’s Christmas Special, and Kacey Musgrave’s Christmas Special to name a few. In 2019 Ava was also chart topper, Khalid’s, head choreographer. Ava has a passion for teaching dance and educating up and coming generations of dancers. Beyond the moves, she loves to push education, self advocacy and humanity. Ava’s talent gets her in the room but her spirit, calm demeanor and professionalism keep her in the room. She has a gift for relating to children to making the most novice mover look and feel good dancing. Ava has a Bachelor’s degree in communications and broadcast journalism from Cal State University Northridge. She is an integral part of Dancers Alliance and stands on the National Dancer’s Committee at SAG-AFTRA participating in contract negotiations and decision making for the betterment of the community. Ava’s passion, integrity, commitment and enthusiasm are only comparable to her talent and skill.
