A graduate of the Central Academy of Drama, he was raised in a family of traditional opera performers, which sparked his early interest in the performing arts. In 2016, Gao made his acting debut in the comedy film Mr. Donkey. He gained wider recognition in 2017 for his role as the villain Dao Wuhen in the historical romance drama The Flame’s Daughter, and later that year starred in Beijing Drifters Love Story, earning the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Asia Influence Awards.
