His former stage name is Izou Oikawa (及川 以造, Oikawa Izō) and his real name is Tetsuji Sugou (須郷 哲司, Sugō Tetsuji). He was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture and graduated from Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music. He is affiliated with the Seinenza Theater Company.
