He began acting at the age of 10. Brotherton married his longtime girlfriend, actress Alison Raimondi, on June 7, 2008. They have two daughters, Shia Bellatrix, born on September 25, 2010, and Saylor Callisto, born on March 3, 2012. Brotherton attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, and was a member of The Kappa Sigma fraternity.
