Religious institutions have not had the best history with the queer community, but our relationship with religion and our faith in that religion is a complex one. There is an intersection of religion and sexuality that is found here, one that isn’t entirely negative. It may be religion that years away Adeline from the love of her life, but it’s also that religion that offers solace to a woman with a lifetime of desires. Very similar to the 2021 Oscar-shortlisted Best International Film entry, ‘Two of Us’, ‘Adeline’ offers an entry into older queer life with just as much emotional impact. The acting, cinematography, dialogue, it’s all so affecting to craft a vibrant short film.
