Critic Reviews for Monster Portal
Monster Portal 2022, what happens when you have a portal connected to a lovecraftian nightmare? Well you get this. It's just such a kickass concept! I barely see lovecraft type monsters get any love let alone a movie where a ton appear! Too bad the human characters are so boringggg! The dialogue is bad too, unlike good kaiju movies like Godzilla or king kong which have great human characters or at least interesting. But these are flat out boring! The dad is the most interesting character to be honest. I swear it was so boring the first half that I was watching it and I still don't know wtf is happening and not in some crazy David Lynch way where it's great and grows on you, no it's just boring. When the monsters start appearing somewhat it gets more interesting but ofc it's bad CGI, the bane of newer monster/kaiju movies. Some of the cinematography is cool but still kinda average. The forest shot at the end is pretty though the way the light is; the CGI there doesn't help at all though. The pacing is very strange the whole movie goes by and feels like all of it was set up. Is there a sequel planned? Is there a director's cut? #releasetheMatthewcut?? The monster design is cool ofc the CGI ain't as bad as you'd think to be honest, it kinda works makes it more Eldritch-y. I petition that a big studio makes a Lovecraft cinematic universe though, how cool would that be!! If Disney does it maybe Galactus can be in it, Cthulhu Vs. Galactus!!!
