Critic Reviews for The Turks are Coming: The Sword of Justice
I guess its fair to say everyone see's history through the lens of their own bias. "The Turks are Coming: The Sword of Justice" is entertaining in its own way. Its production values are decent if not outstanding, acting is reasonable too and action scenes, are polished. That said, it's an historical fantasy. Sultan Mehmed II known as "The Father of Conquest" was, as the name suggests, a conqueror. Trying to paint him and all of the Turkish empire as good and virtuous and everyone opposing him, as bad, is simplistic, to say the least. The interplay between East and West in this time period (15th century) was as complex and fraught, maybe more so, than it is today. No one could emphatically claim the moral high ground as this film, rather clumsily, attempts to do. The results still watchable but it feels like comical self satire at times In summary, a sword and sandals action drama, that's quite entertaining but hardly historically representative. A moderate watch.
